The above "screen shot" was creating using Microsoft's eMbedded tools 3.0 and MS Access for Pocket PC (though eMbedded Tools 4.0 is available, 3.0 runs on ealier versions of PocketPC). The technician scans or modifies data in the field, this data is stored local on the device or transmitted immediately using a cellular connection. Upon connecting with the host machine, the device will take advantage of ActiveSync's synchronization capabilities of Pocket Access databases and synchronize the handheld data with the Host data, making sure both copies have the only the latest data entries. This informaion can then be utilized via Visual3270 to make data entry elements into a CICS database via TN3270 protocols. This description is more reminiscent of a batch system, but has the full capabilities of real-time by just adding the cellular connection and transmitting data to the receiver upon which the receiving application will trigger the Visual3270 agent and submit the data, returning a response when complete.
